THE LIFE AFTER AI

For more than a decade, Brain Bar has been bringing the world's leading thinkers to Hungary. Canadian sci-fi writer Cory Doctorow is certainly one of them: a defining voice in digital culture. He has written close to 40 books (many of them published in Hungarian as well), most of them near-future dystopian science fiction and yet, his most important works are his critical analyses of contemporary technology. In 2022 he coined the term "enshittification": the idea that the internet is steadily becoming a worse place, because digital platforms start out genuinely good for their users, then shift to serving advertisers, and finally exploit both groups in the name of maximising profit.

His latest book, published in Hungarian just before Brain Bar, takes on a subject that may be more urgent still: how should we think about artificial intelligence before it's too late? For an audience that thinks about the future consciously and critically, meeting him in person — talking with him, arguing with him — will be an exceptional experience.
