The biggest death taboos revealed

Scared of dead bodies? Blame the death industry, says author Hayley Campbell.

A writer for WIRED, The Guardian, and GQ, as well as a BBC host, Hayley has delved into a range of topics from the most beautiful old typefaces to the psychology of boxing. However, in recent years, she has focused most on a subject that has fascinated her since childhood: death.

She interviewed embalmers, detectives, and even executioners while exploring whether the proximity of death changes a person, and how outsourcing death, our greatest fear to professionals impacts us. Building on her research, she recently authored the book "All the Living and the Dead" - and at Brain Bar, she told us all about what she'd learnt about things like dressing up bodies or Cryonix throughout her research, what really goes on behind the scenes of the death industry, and what kind of personalities its workers have.
