András Takács-Sánta

András Takács-Sánta is a human ecologist, associate professor at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), and head of the Human Ecology master's program. In his research and books — including "Világeleje" ("The Beginning of the World") and "A közlegelők komédiája" ("The Comedy of the Commons") — he focuses in particular on the vulnerability of the global market-consumer civilisation and the social background of the ecological crisis. Relevant to his talk, he emphasises that excessive global interconnectedness and centralised systems increase our vulnerability, and that genuine freedom and independence (autonomy) can instead be found in grassroots, ecologically minded local communities and in partially rebuilding local self-sufficiency. As founder of the Kisközösségi Program (Small Community Program), he not only researches these ideas in theory but also actively helps people break free from global dependencies and strengthen local, actionable hope.
