Dr. Balázs Lukács
Ecologist, botanist, and hydrobiologist
Dr. Balázs Lukács is a researcher and director at the Department of Aquatic Ecology of the HUN-REN Centre for Ecological Research. His work examines how climate change, water scarcity, and the spread of invasive species are transforming our lakes, rivers, and wetlands. His research spans from the functioning of aquatic plants to the resilience of entire ecosystems, and he strives to make his findings useful for both nature conservation and water management. He believes that one of the most important questions for the future is not simply whether we will have enough water, but also in what condition our waters will remain — whether these processes can be reversed, or whether we will need to adapt to entirely new ecosystems.
