Lars Chittka

Legendary Behavioral Ecologist

More and more of us are aware that bees are one of the key drivers of our ecosystem - but do we truly understand how intelligent they are? Well, this is what Lars Chittka, Professor of Sensory and Behavioural Ecology and founder of the Research Centre for Psychology at Queen Mary University of London researches. In his book, 'The Mind of the Bee,' he demonstrates that these incredible creatures recognize human faces, display emotions, use tools, solve problems and learn - and perhaps even possess consciousness and personalities. In addition to his contribution to our understanding of how so much knowledge can fit into such small nervous systems, Dr. Chittka also addresses ethical dilemmas in conservation and laboratory settings.
