Nataliya Kosmyna
AI Researcher and Neuroscientist, MIT Media Lab
As AI tools like ChatGPT become everyday thinking partners, how do they reshape the way our brains work? Nataliya Kosmyna is a Research Scientist at the MIT Media Lab’s Fluid Interfaces group and a Visiting Faculty Researcher at Google, where she studies the cognitive and neural impact of interacting with artificial intelligence. Her recent research uses brain-monitoring methods to examine how reliance on generative AI affects attention, memory formation, and critical engagement, raising important questions about cognitive offloading and long-term learning. By combining neuroscience and AI, she explores how we can design intelligent systems that strengthen human agency and thinking skills rather than quietly diminishing them.
